The district election authorities have written to the police to register an FIR against Gidderbaha MLA and Congress candidate from the Bathinda parliamentary constituency Amrinder Singh Raja Warring for violating the model code of conduct for holding an election meeting at a gurdwara at Deonkhera village in Lambi on Sunday.

Dr Richa, Assistant Returning Officer (ARO), Lambi, said, “The Congress candidate had given a reply to our show-cause notice that he had held the meeting under a shed in the gurdwara complex. He had claimed that the shed could be used by anyone after paying some kind of rent or donation. However, our team visited the place and confirmed it a case of code violation. I have written to the police to register a case in this regard.”

Manjit Singh Dhesi, SSP, Muktsar, said, "I am on leave and thus unaware of any such recommendation by the election authorities. Even if they have recommended an FIR against the leader, it will go to the Bathinda police."

Warring could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.

Harcharan Singh Brar Sotha, president, District Congress Committe (DCC), Muktsar, who is also the maternal uncle of Warring, said, "The shed was not inside the gurdwara and we had paid rent for its use. Even Parkash Singh Badal and Harsimrat Kaur Badal had held programmes there in the past. It cannot be any kind of violation of the code of conduct."
