Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal on Monday alleged “unfair action” by the state government and the police in the recent train tragedy in Amritsar.

“On the one side, persons seeking justice for the victims were booked under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder), which attracts a maximum punishment of life imprisonment and, on the other, unidentified persons were booked under a non-consequential Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) for the train tragedy,” he told the media here.

State BJP president Shwait Malik was also present at the press meet, which was organised after a meeting of the coordination committee of the alliance. He said, “Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha and Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore reached the accident site within hours of the incident, but the CMtook 18 hours to reach Amritsar. And now, he has gone to Israel.”

Both condemned the statement of dissident AAP leader Sukhpal Khaira for terming the tragedy as a “chhota hadsa” (small tragedy). They said it was clear Khaira was part of the Congress’ cover-up exercise.
