Sangrur, December 19

A state-level kabbadi player from Rupaheri village died under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday night. A case has been registered.

“The 27-year-old player was found lying unconscious on the Julamgarh road on Wednesday morning. When some residents took him to the Sangrur Civil Hospital, he was declared brought dead. We have started investigations,” said Bikkar Singh, head constable.

Deceased’s father said his son was taking medicine for de-addiction, but he was unaware about the type of drug he was taking. “Neither do I know the name of the drug nor do I know for how long he had been taking it as he had been staying separately from us from the last two years. All I know is he was taking medicine for de-addiction,” he said.

Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr Kirpal Singh said a board of doctors had conducted a post-mortem examination.

“We have sent viscera samples to Kharar laboratory to ascertain the cause of death,” said the SMO.

However, head constable Bikkar Singh said they didn’t know if the deceased was an addict.

“Whether this death is due to drug overdose or not, I can only ascertain after receiving the laboratory report,” he said.
