Tarn Taran: Debt-ridden farmer Mukhtiar Singh (35) ended his life in Johal Dhai Wala village by hanging himself at his house on Sunday. The Chohla Sahib police have lodged a report under Section 174 CrPC. The post-mortem was conducted at the local civil hospital here. Joga Singh, Mukhtiar's elder brother, said that Mukhtiar owned only two acres and was under a debt of Rs 8 lakh, besides the debt of commission agents. Ranjit Kaur, wife of the deceased farmer, said her husband was under tension. He hanged himself from the girder of a room. OC

Labourer kills self

Abohar: A farm labourer Ranjit Singh (35) reportedly ended his life by hanging from a tree in a field in Panniwala Mahla village in Abohar on Saturday. Land owner Nachhattar Singh noticed the body hanging and informed the deceased's family. The police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem. The family members said the victim was finding it difficult to earn bread for the family which included his wife, three minor daughters, a son and his parents. OC

Woman sustains bullet injury

Muktsar: A 40-year-old woman of Mrar Kalan village sustained bullet injury in her leg on Sunday when some boys of her village came to her residence and opened fire. The victim, Kuldeep Kaur, has been referred to a hospital in Faridkot. Sources said that Kuldeep’s family had tried to broker peace between two families in the village that were having some dispute. One of them was behind this act, sources said. The police have started an investigation. TNS

Youth dies as pole falls on head

Muktsar: A 25-year-old boy died after a traffic barrier pole installed at a railway crossing in Udekaran village, near here, cracked and fell on him on Saturday. The deceased, Jagandeep Singh, native of Aulakh village in Gurdapur district, was a driver of an earthmoving machine. He was riding a motorcycle when the pole fell on his head. He had come to the village to inquire about the health of a friend. TNS

Body found in septic tank, 5 booked   

Sangrur: The Dhuri Sadar police have recovered the body of Leela Singh (52) from a septic tank at Kubhandwal village and registered a murder case against five persons. Leela Singh had been missing for the past 20 days.  As per information shared by SHO Gurpartap Singh, Leela Singh allegedly had illicit relations with a woman of his village but the two sons of the woman were opposing their relationship.
