Two months on, Panchayat Samitis, ZPs yet to get heads

MUKTSAR: Almost two months have passed since the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti polls were held, the state government is yet to complete the process of appointing the heads of these rural bodies.

Almost two months have passed since the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti polls were held, the state government is yet to complete the process of appointing the heads of these rural bodies.

The situation is same everywhere in the state and the posts of chairmen and vice-chairmen for Zila Parishads and Panchayat Samitis are yet to be reserved. The process has to be completed by the Rural Development Department.

The members of the Zila Parishads and Panchayat Samitis are yet to be administered oath. The elections were held on September 19, recounting was done in some wards on September 21 and the votes were counted and results declared on September 22.

HS Sra, ADC (D), Muktsar, said, “The wards were reserved by the district administration, but the posts of chairmen, vice-chairmen are to be reserved by the Rural Development Department. I can’t make a comment on when will these be declared.”

Meanwhile, Jaskiran Singh, Director, Rural Development, said, “The Act has been amended for reservation. The members will soon be asked to elect the chairmen.”
