Two killed as car rams into truck

ABOHAR: Two women died and their five relatives were seriously injured as the car they were travelling in reportedly rammed into one of the trucks that were waiting outside a wheat godown near Ramsara village, 10 km from here, on the state highway on Friday morning.

Two women died and their five relatives were seriously injured as the car they were travelling in reportedly rammed into one of the trucks that were waiting outside a wheat godown near Ramsara village, 10 km from here, on the state highway on Friday morning.

The victims were returning from Sadulshehar after attending a marriage function of Manoj Kumar of Nai Abadi here.

The deceased have been identified as Meera Devi (50), sister of Manoj’s father, and Rekha (38), wife of his elder brother Pradeep Kumar.

Many drivers and truck cleaners pulled the ill-fated car out and got the victims shifted using highway ambulance to the Sub-divisional Civil Hospital here.

The doctors declared Meera and Rekha dead. Pradeep Kumar, his son Divyanshu (11), daughter Tanvi (6), Meera’s daughter Payal (20) and another relative Akash (25) of Fatehabad were later shifted to a private hospital in Sriganganagar.

In another accident, two persons sustained injuries as the car they were travelling in reportedly collided with a pickup van outside a ghee factory on the Abohar-Malout stretch of the highway. Ankush and Mohit Shakya have been admitted to the Civil Hospital here.

In yet another mishap, a canter that was transporting plastic pipes from Vadodara (Gujarat) to Punjab was gutted after it overturned outside Birmasar village on the Hanumangarh mega highway on Friday. The driver said he lost control over the vehicle while trying to save a woman.

Meanwhile, a pickup van that was transporting pets also overturned on Friday after it collided with a stray bull that had died a few minutes ago. The staff and pets escaped with minor injuries.
