Chandigarh, September 21

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today ordered the release of pending 7,000 tubewell connections to farmers who have already made the payment. He has fixed November 15 as the deadline for the purpose.

The direction came during a meeting with representatives of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee. The CM has told the PSPCL Chairman to issue directions to the field staff across the state for strict compliance.

On another demand of the committee, the CM asked the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Agriculture, to ensure that farmers get subsidised agricultural implements/ equipment before October 15 for in-situ management of paddy stubble.

The ACS told the CM that of the 24,000 implements/equipment, about 8,000 had been distributed among farmers, cooperative societies and custom-hiring centres so far.

Capt Amarinder asked the Principal Secretary, Power, to examine the feasibility of sending power bills to consumers on a monthly basis instead of the existing time frame of two months, especially in rural areas.
