Tributes paid to Madan Lal Dhingra

The martyrdom day of freedom fighter Madan Lal Dhingra, who laid down his life on foreign soil this day, was commemorated here.

Two separate functions were organised. A state-level programme was held at Sant Singh Sukha Singh School, where tributes were paid to the martyr by Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Sidhu said Shaheed Madan Lal Dingra belonged to an affluent family of Amritsar but chose to sacrifice his life for the sake of the nation. He pointed out that the political leaders should learn a lesson from the martyr’s life and shun dirty politics.

Others present on the occasion included MLA Sunil Dutti and Deputy Commissioner KS Sangha. Another function was organised by BJP leader Luxmi Kanta Chawla at Town Hall where the CM paid floral tributes at the martyr’s statue. The CM was here to inaugurate the Partition Museum, but stopped for the function.

On the insistence of Chawla for the restoration of the ancestral house of the martyr at Katra Sher Singh, the CM gave an assurance to do something in this regard.

NGOs remember martyr in Abohar

Abohar: Legislator Arun Narang joined NGOs in paying tributes to patriot Madan Lal Dhingra on his martyrdom day here on Thursday. Narang said Dhingra gunned down British officer William Curzon Wyllie in England. He was executed in London on August 17, 1909 at the age of 26. Former SDM BL Sikka said the state and central governments should include a chapter in the school syllabi to educate the young generation about the sacrifices made by the revolutionaries. Punjabi Sabhyachar Manch head GS Gill said the sacrifice of the martyr should be duly acknowledged. oc
