Trader held for Ludhiana contract killing

Ludhiana, October 14

Three days after an architect, Mandeep Kumar Bansal, was murdered by a bike-borne assailant at Dugri, the city police on Sunday arrested key conspirator Balwinder Singh, who had hired the killer for Rs 15 lakh.

Balwinder, who was in the spare parts business, was nabbed from near Guru Nanak Engineering College.

Dugri SHO Rajesh Thakur said the police nabbed him following a tip-off that he was travelling on the Gill Road. He would be produced in the court on Monday to seek his police remand.

Weapon mortgaged? 

Sources said the weapon used in the crime was allegedly mortgaged by someone to the landlord of shooter Gurvinder Singh for Rs 1 lakh. The police are looking for the weapon licence holder and the landlord. — TNS
