Three killed as truck, pick-up van collide

Three persons were killed and one injured in a collision between a truck and a pick-up vehicle at a stretch between ITI Chowk and Kachehri Chowk in the town late last night.

The deceased were identified as Gurpreet Singh, Darshan Singh and Zaila Singh. They were residents of Barnala.

The injured, Varinder Singh, was referred to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. Following the collision, the truck overturned while the pick-up van was damaged completely. The truck driver fled the spot.

Kuldeep Singh, Station House Officer, said the truck, loaded with bags of oil-cake, was on its way from Rajasthan to Patiala while the pick-up van was going towards local Kachehri Chowk. He said the victims were travelling in the pick-up van.

The police have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver under Sections 304-A, 279, 337, 338 and 427 of the IPC.

Driver dies as SUV falls into canal

Hoshiarpur: A Mukerian resident was killed after he lost control over his SUV that fell into the Mukerian hydel canal near Uchi Bassi.

It took two hours for the police rescue team to take out the SUV. The victim was found stuck in the driver seat. He was identified as Shiv Charan Singh of Tanda Ram Sahay village in Mukerian. He was on his way from Dasuya to Mukerian. The police are investigating the matter.
