Giving a serious turn to the blast at Kaler village on Khadoor Sahib-Tarn Taran road on Wednesday evening, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday said the explosion occurred while three persons were attempting to make bombs.

Speaking at Batala, the CM said: “During preliminary probe, it was found that the blast occurred when three persons were attempting to make a bomb in a bottle by mixing some chemicals, in a makeshift pit.” He said the investigations were on and all possible angles were being looked into.

The police, however, was still tight-lipped over the investigations carried out so far into the incident that took the life of Bikram Singh and Harpreet Singh of Bachre village. Gurjant Singh was severely injured in the blast.

“Ask SSP Tarn Taran Dhruv Dahiya about this,” said IG (Border Range) SPS Parmar while refusing to give any details about the case. The Tarn Taran SSP did not respond to the repeated calls. The SP (Investigations), Harjit Dhaliwal, said the investigations were still under way and he couldn’t say anything at this moment.

A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and a post-blast investigation team of the National Security Guard visited the spot today to ascertain the ingredients and contents of the exploded bomb.

Meanwhile, the family of Bikram Singh expressed their ignorance about his nefarious activities. They said he was indifferent to household affairs. He was a mason.

They said on Wednesday morning, Bikram left for work saying that would come late in the evening. They were four brothers and one of them, Nishan Singh, was in Dubai. Nishan often sent some amount to take care of their ailing mother.

The family of Harpreet Singh said they couldn’t believe that he could do anything like this. “He had gone to fetch cow milk from the residence of Harjit Singh of Pandorii Gola,” said Amarjit Singh, his relative.
