Pathankot, January 15

Two motorcycle-borne persons died on the spot after they were attacked by a herd of stray bulls while another person riding a scooter sustained serious injuries on the Pathankot-Sujanpur link road late last night. The road has no streetlights.

The deceased have been identified as Gulshan (24) of Mudde village near Pathankot and Sahil (25) of Sujanpur while the injured has been identified as Krishan Radhe of Sujanpur.

The incident has once again brought into focus the menace of stray animals in the city.

Narinder Kala, a municipal councillor, alleged that cow cess was being charged from the residents by the MC with the intention of controlling the menace.

“Though the municipal corporation claims that it has driven stray bulls in the cattle pond at Dairywal village, scores of stray animals roam on main roads, which has put a question mark on the efficacy of the MC. I demand that the kin of the deceased should be given monetary compensation to the tune of Rs 25 lakh each,” he added.
