Fazilka, December 6

Punjab’s third State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station has been opened in Fazilka district. Cases regarding the recovery of drugs, nabbing of smugglers and gangsters by the Counter Intelligence Wing of nine districts of the state would be registered in the Fazilka police station. Two such police stations are already functional in Amritsar and Mohali districts.

The police station has been opened about 16 months after the issuance of notification by the previous SAD-BJP government on August 19, 2016.

“Cases related to drugs and narcotics of Ferozepur, Moga, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, Mansa, Barnala, Sangrur districts, besides Fazilka district, would now be registered here,” said Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Intelligence Wing, Narinderpal Singh Sidhu after inaugurating the police station. The AIG would be the incharge of the police station.

The trial of all cases related to this police station would be held in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate here.

The police station has been set up in the old District Transport Office building at the old Abohar road bus stand after converting it. The sources said in the first phase only, about two dozen police employees have been deployed against the total sanctioned strength of 104 personnel for the newly set up police station.

Narinderpal Singh said the first case of recovery of 3 kg heroin and arrest of two smugglers in Ferozepur was registered in the newly set up police station today. — OC
