Chandigarh, November 23

The Punjab Student Union today slammed the police for arresting students who protested during spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s visit to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.

In a press release, PSU’s state president Ranbir Singh Randhawa said over 100 students were arrested in Faridkot. They were alleging that the university should not have invited the spiritual leader, “who is pro-corporate and anti-Dalit”.

They alleged that sometime back, Sri Sri had demanded that all government schools should be closed down as most of the students studying in these schools were anti-national. Earlier when Ravi Shankar started speaking, a medico from inside the auditorium started raising slogans against Vice Chancellor Dr Raj Bahadur as well as Dr Sanjeev Gupta. She was demanding justice for a girl, who is victim of alleged sexual harassment. — TNS
