Faridkot, February 21

To establish the exact sequence of events in the fabrication of 18 marks of gun pellets on the escort Gypsy of former Moga SSP Charanjit Singh Sharma, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Thursday rounded up two more persons.

After over four hours of questioning here, all four persons who have been rounded up — the gunman of an SP-rank officer, a lawyer and a car dealer’s former employee and a private security guard — were taken to Kapurthala for further questioning on Thursday, said sources.

They said after the name of the lawyer, whose late father was known for his proximity with senior Akali leaders, figured in the alleged act of fabricating gun marks, the SIT had been facing pressure from some local leaders to soften its posture on this suspect. This is the reason that the SIT preferred to shift these suspects to Kapurthala, said sources.

The SIT is also focusing on the use of illegal weapons in handling protesters at Behbal Kalan in October 2015. The SIT is trying to link the use of an AK-47 gun for this purpose.
