New Delhi, January 6

Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia accused former AAP leader and MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, who resigned from the party today, of trying to weaken the party and asserted it would rather be strengthened with his exit.

Khaira was suspended from AAP in November last year for indulging in “anti-party” activities. “Sukhpal Khaira’s resignation was expected. The party will be strengthened with his exit. He should now resign as MLA also as he had won on party ticket. Khaira started revolting against the party since the post of LoP was given to a Dalit leader,” Sisodia posted on Twitter.

He also accused the leader of trying to weaken the party. “Khaira tried to break the party. Which organisation can tolerate such behaviour? @ArvindKejriwal always says that those who have come for position or power should leave the party. He was always clamouring for position and power,” he tweeted.

AAP, which was billed as a strong contender to wrest power from Punjab's ruling SAD-BJP coalition in the 2017 Assembly polls, managed to win just 20 seats in the 117-member state Assembly.

Following his removal as the LoP, Khaira, along with seven supporters, formed a rebel group which sought autonomy for AAP's state unit. — PTI
