Noted Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s mother Charan Kaur is contesting the panchayat elections from Moosa village in Mansa district. She is in the fray for the post of sarpanch and is being backed by the ruling Congress.

She has remained the panch of the village in the past. She is contesting against Bibi Manjeet Kaur. Moosewala’s family said they were contesting the elections not to attain any post but to serve people.

Charan Kaur claimed that they would not resort to the distribution of liquor or drugs during the poll campaign and would fight drugs on winning the elections. Besides, the family will also oppose candidates who will indulge in such practices, the family said. Moosewala’s father Bhola Singh said he would like to see where his village stood when it came to holding a “drug-free” election. He said they would remain firm on their stand, whether they win or lose the election.

Meanwhile, a video of Moosewala seeking votes for his mother has also gone viral. In the video, he can be seen asking the electorate, “Will you vote without taking liquor?” People are seen replying in the affirmative. Besides, he also outlined the priorities, stating that they would first address the issue of waterworks and sewerage system in the village. He said his mother was not contesting the election due to any greed for a post.
