A deputation of the District Bar Association met Food, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Punjab State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission chairman Justice PS Dhaliwal (retd) and demanded setting up of a consumer court in Fazilka.

The deputation was led by District Bar Association president Manish Sharma, treasurer Vipin Singla and executive committee member Gaurav Sharma.

The deputation members said more than 150 cases of consumers belonging to Fazilka district were pending in the Ferozepur court, causing inconvenience to the litigants.

They said consumers courts had been set up in several district where there were less number of cases as compared to Fazilka but the border district had been deprived of it.

The deputation said the residents had to cover around 300 km to and fro to reach the Ferozepur court.

They said even eight years after granting the district headquarters status to Fazilka, the residents were facing the same hardships as they had to before the decision was made.

Bar Association president said there was sufficient space to set up the courts in the District Administrative Complex and the District Sessions Division Court Complex.

Manish, however, warned that if their demand was not met, they would launch an agitation.
