Security of 125 VIPs trimmed

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Police has withdrawn nearly 200 policemen from security duty of number of politicians, including former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia, SGPC president, former AAP state president Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi and several Shiv Sena leaders, besides singer Jazzy B, heads of different deras and police officials with immediate effect.

The Punjab Police has withdrawn nearly 200 policemen from security duty of number of politicians, including former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia, SGPC president, former AAP state president Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi and several Shiv Sena leaders, besides singer Jazzy B, heads of different deras and police officials with immediate effect.

Two constables each have been withdrawn from SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal and former president Kirpal Singh Badungar. Security has also been withdrawn from nearly 50 Shiv Sena leaders. Congress leaders who have lost one gunmen each are former minister Inderjit Singh Zira, Khushbaj Singh Jatana from Talwandi Sabo and former Youth Congress president Vikram Chaudhary.

As per orders issued by ADGP (Security) Gaurav Yadav on July 8, the gunmen given to 125 such persons have been withdrawn and ordered for law and order duty in different districts.

Majithia tops the list with highest number of 11 gunmen of the Punjab Police withdrawn from him. A gunman given to Ghuggi has also been withdrawn.

While Gaurav Yadav could not be contacted, sources said these gunmen were required for law and order duty due to the PM’s rally in Malout on Wednesday. The orders also say the staff of the Kapurthala police has been withdrawn for further movement to Assam for law and order duty.


New transfer policy for inspectors, SIs

Chandigarh: In line with introducing reforms in the working of the police and to check the long tenure of police officials on one post, the Punjab Police has issued a transfer policy for the rank of inspector and below while announcing minimum tenure of one year for the Station House Officers. As per orders issued by DGP Suresh Arora to the SSPs and range incharges, no inspector or sub-Inspector would be allowed to work more than eight years in a district and for lower ranks the period is 12 years. The orders said the maximum tenure of a sub-inspector and inspector as an SHO would be three years only after the recommendation of the SSP or Commissioner concerned. The orders also said no police officer would be posted in the home subdivision. TNS
