Dera Baba Nanak, November 7

Two days prior to the corridor inauguration, the BSF and the state police have tightened security at both venues — the helipad, to be used by PM Narendra Modi, and the corridor site.

Meanwhile, Akali MLA Bikram Singh Majithia exhorted all parties to rise above petty politics to ensure that the Kartarpur corridor inaugural ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, goes off smoothly.

Majithia and SAD general secretary Daljit Singh Cheema were talking to the media at BSF border outpost of Shikhaar Masiahan after attending an “akhand path”, started by the SGPC at the historical Gurdwara Darbar Sahib at Dera Baba Nanak this morning. Prominent among others present on the occasion Nirmal Singh Kahlon, Ravi Karan Kahlon, Parambans Singh Bunty Romana and Sarabjot Sabi and senior SGPC functionaries.

PM Narendra Modi will be landing at Shikhaar Masiahan before proceeding to the corridor site, 7 km away. He is likely to be accompanied by former CM Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Badal and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal in a cavalcade till the corridor. Later, he will proceed to Sultanpur Lodhi.

Cheema said he was pained by some leaders trying to give political colours to the celebrations. “Guru Nanak had never differentiated among classes or human beings. But here some parties are out to take mileage which is an unfortunate thing,” he said.
