Claiming credit for bringing the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) to Malerkotla, both Sangrur AAP MP Bhagwant Mann and Cabinet minister Razia Sultana today jointly inaugurated the centre.

Presiding over the inaugural ceremony, Mann claimed that the district got the PSK due to his efforts. On the other hand, Razia said since she was the chief guest at the event, it proved that it was her contribution to her constituency.

Mann said: “Residents of Sangrur and Barnala districts had been facing problems in getting their passports issued. I repeatedly took up the matter with Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Has Razia Sultana ever met Swaraj for this cause?”

Mann said earlier the centre was to be opened in Sangrur, for which he had inspected the city post office, but due to lack of space, the PSK was shifted to Malerkotla.

“The residents of my constituency know that I had been working for it. I do not need to prove it. Razia Sultana was made the chief guest only because she is a minister from Sangrur district,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mann reached the office at 11 am and waited for the minister for around 30 minutes. Later, both jointly cut the ceremonial ribbon and unveiled the inaugural stone.

Regional Passport Officer (RPO) Sibash Kabiraj said that they had been taking steps to provide best facilities to area residents. “The opening of PSK in Malerkotla would help the area residents in a big way,” he said.
