Chamkaur Sahib, December 21

Following an appeal by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Gobind Singh Longowal, the Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress avoided mud-slinging during conferences organised at Shaheedi Jor Mela here today.

Senior leaders from SAD, including Anandpur Sahib MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, his son and MLA from Sanaur Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra, former Cabinet ministers Daljit Singh Cheema, Bibi Satwant Kaur Sandhu and former MP Satwidner Kaur Dhaliwal, addressed the gathering at Diwan Hall of Gurdwara Katalgarh Sahib.

Barring MP Chandumajra, who criticised local MLA and Cabinet Minister Charnajit Singh Channi for delay in submitting a detailed project report on the proposed national highway in the area, all other leaders confined to the importance of the occasion in the Sikh history.

Similarly, at a conference organised by Channi at the grain market, Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal mentioned the name of SAD once only criticising it for the poor fiscal condition of the state.

Later, the Finance Minister said the state government had taken drastic steps to contain the government expenditure and generating revenue. Without providing details, he claimed that when the audit report of all states would be released after this fiscal year, Punjab would get the top slot among all states in the country.
