The Customs Department has seized heroin weighing around 1.1 kg that was concealed in a wagon of a train that arrived from Pakistan at the Attari railway station.

Customs Commissioner Dipak Kumar Gupta said on Tuesday, the officers of a rummaging team of the Customs Department recovered a light-brown powder concealed in a 5-ft-long wire in an empty wagon at the Attari station.

“This wire was concealed in the pressure break pipe of an empty wagon that was attached to 68 DN train, which arrived from Pakistan. When we broke open the cylindrical wire, we found a suspicious powder,” he said.

Gupta said a preliminary testing of the powder was carried out with the help of the narcotics drug detection kit, which confirmed it was heroin. “The value of the recovered contraband is Rs 5.05 crore approximately in the international market,” he added.

No arrest has been made so far and heroin was seized under the NDPS Act and the Customs Act-1962.
