Rivers in spate, crops in 16 villages submerged

TARN TARAN: Crops on more than 16,000 acres in 16 villages of the Mand area were washed away due to the rising water of the Beas and the Sutlej. The water level in the rivers has gone up since Wednesday.

Crops on more than 16,000 acres in 16 villages of the Mand area were washed away due to the rising water of the Beas and the Sutlej. The water level in the rivers has gone up since Wednesday.

District Revenue Officer Arwinderpal Singh said the Khadur Sahib sub-division and the Chohla Sahib block were the worst-affected areas. He said Khadur Sahib tehsildar and Chohla Sahib naib tehsildar were told to submit their reports by Thursday evening.

Sources said the affected villages included Goindwal Sahib, Dhunda, Manakdeke, Bhail Dhai Wala, Jauhal Dhai Wala, Munda Pind, Gharka, Gujjarpura, Karumnwala, Dhun Dhai Wala, Chamba Kalan, Kambo Dhai Wala, Kirian, Marrar and Harike.

Rise in water level since Wednesday

  • The water level in the Beas and the Sutlej has gone up since Wednesday.
  • The Khadur Sahib sub-division and the Chohla Sahib block are the worst-affected areas.
