Unfazed by the Congress attack on his party in the Vidhan Sabha today, BJP state president Kamal Sharma today reiterated that Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia should resign. The latter has been issued summons by the Enforcement Directorate in the multi-crore Bhola drug case.

Local Akali leaders were quick to launch a counter-attack. The SAD in charge of the Doaba trade wing, Gurcharan Singh Channi, pointed out that Majithia had been called as a witness and not as an accused. Asked why the party had not stood for former minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur, he replied that the latter had opted to quit.

Channi had no answer when pointed out that Tota Singh and Gulzar Singh Ranike too had to quit when they were facing inquiries.

The SAD Doaba youth wing chief, Sarabjot Sabi, said his party leaders had unanimously passed a resolution that Majithia should not resign. “As the PWD Minister, Partap Bajwa was named in a corruption case but did not resign. Why then is he gunning for Majithia,” he asked.

Earlier, BJP chief Sharma said his party’s stand on the drug menace was clear and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed grave concern over the matter. He said the BJP would continue to support the SAD on all other issues.
