Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Aruna Chaudhary and Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Thursday directed the officials concerned to immediately start the pension of three blind siblings of Nadampur village.

The move came a day after The Tribune highlighted the plight of the siblings, who were denied pension for the past two years.

District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Sangrur, Satish Kapoor confirmed that after reading the news, the department started the pension of the trio. “Today after getting their disability certificates, we have transferred one-month pension into the bank accounts of the siblings. In future, we will ensure timely release of pension to them.”

“Aruna Chaudhary has strictly directed the officials concerned to ensure that no one faces any problem in getting pension as all funds are being released timely,” a spokesperson of the Social Security Department said.

The visually impaired three siblings, brothers Gurdai Singh (48), Gian Singh (50) and their sister Karnail Kaur (53), have been living in a small house of Nadampur village of Sangrur district.

In October 2017, the Social Security Department had stopped their pensions after they failed to produce their disability certificates. Since then the Japhar Welfare Society members and area residents have been helping them by pooling funds.

“It’s surprising as I have been getting the pensions of many people started in my constituency. We will check that who caused this problem to the three siblings. In future also, if anyone faces any issues in getting their pension, they should contact my Sangrur office,” said Singla, who is also Sangrur Congress MLA.
