Rehab centre sealed after addict’s death

BATHINDA: A man, Dheeraj Kumar (38), resident of the city, died under mysterious circumstances at a private drug de-addiction centre here on Saturday.

A man, Dheeraj Kumar (38), resident of the city, died under mysterious circumstances at a private drug de-addiction centre here on Saturday. The body of the deceased was taken to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

The deceased was a drug addict and had been undergoing treatment at the drug de-addiction centre. On Saturday, three persons from the centre brought Dheeraj to the emergency unit of the Civil Hospital for treatment. But doctors said Dheeraj was brought dead to the government hospital. Health Department officials then brought the matter to the notice of the district administration. The city police have been investigating the matter.

Later, SDM Amrinder Singh Tiwana and a team of Health Department officials, led by officiating Civil Surgeon, Dr Kundan Pal, Dr Arun Bansal, psychiatrist, from the Civil Hospital and other officials, including district Social Security Officer also reached the drug de-addiction centre to take stock of the situation. After checking the credentials, Tiwana and Health Department officials seized the documents and sealed the drug de-addiction centre.
