Amritsar, January 19

As a fallout of a sleaze video clipping, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has issued fresh directions that Charanjit Singh Chadha ought to resign from the chair of the 116-year-old socio-religious organisation Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) before appearing in front of the Akal Takht. Chadha has been embroiled in a controversy after his intimate video with a woman principal went viral on December 27.

The Akal Takht has already summoned Chadha to clarify his stance before the five High Priests at Akal Takht on January 23 and directed his removal from all positions.

Bhupinder Singh, personal secretary to Giani Gurbachan Singh, said as per the Takht’s directions, Chadha’s appearance before the High Priests would be acknowledged only if he puts in his papers formally.

“As per Akal Takht directions, Chadha will have to appear like a common man with no tag or position,” he said. However, Chadha maintained that the clipping had been doctored and has lodged an FIR.

The Khalsa College Governing Council has relieved him from the post of vice-chairman, but Chadha has refused to step down.

After a series of meetings between Chadha loyalists and the agitating members demanding his resignation, Chadha had sent a communiqué to CKD secretary that “as per the CKD constitution, he is giving charge to senior vice-president Dhanraj Singh as officiating president in his absence”. The CKD’s honorary secretary Narinder Singh Khurana confirmed that Chadha hasn’t put in his papers till date.
