Prof Rajpal dies at 76

Prof Rajpal Singh, associated with literature, art and folk culture, passed away following a brief illness here today. He is survived by his wife and a son.

He hailed from Baghria village in Sangrur and taught English at Government Mohindra College, Patiala.

Condoling the demise of Prof Rajpal Singh, Minister of Cultural Affairs Navjot Sidhu said Prof Rajpal rendered valuable services while serving as the Secretary General of the Punjab Kala Parishad, President of Punjabi Sahit Akademi and Secretary of Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi. He said Prof Rajpal served the cause of Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat all his life which was evident from the way he participated in the meetings held to finalise the cultural policy of Punjab.

Prof Rajpal was a dedicated teacher who taught the students with utmost care. Sidhu prayed to the almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Punjab Kala Parishad Dr Surjit Patar termed his death as a big loss to folk art, culture and literary field.

Prof Gurbhajan Gill, former president of Punjabi Sahit Akademi, Ludhiana, said Rajpal was full of life. He was instrumental behind organising youth festivals and cultural festivals in colleges and universities of the state.
