A Guru Har Sahai-based businessman, Vinay Bajaj, today accused Punjab Police officers of shielding the alleged henchmen of Anumit Singh Hira Sodhi, son of Guru Har Sahai MLA Rana Gurmeet Sodhi. He was allegedly brutally injured by the henchmen at his fast food shop on December 26, 2017.

Addressing a press conference, Vinay Bajaj, who came on a wheelchair, claimed that before being assaulted, he was regularly threatened for supporting the candidature of the SAD-BJP candidate from Guru Har Sahai. “Despite registration of an FIR, the police have failed to record my statement and identify anyone of the six suspects.

The investigations have not moved an inch since I was assaulted,” he said. He was accompanied by his brother, father and mother.

Repeated attempts to talk to the MLA remained futile as he did not respond to the calls.

Alleging that the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ferozepur, the DSP concerned and SHO were shielding the suspects, NK Bajaj, brother of the victim, said he complained to the DGP, Punjab Police, but the complaint was marked to the DIG, Ferozepur, and nothing has happened. “No police official has contacted the victim who was being treated at Cosmo Hospital in Mohali, said NK Bajaj.

Rana Gurmeet Sodhi could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.

Akalis accuse Cong leader of vendetta

SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said the police had already registered FIRs in most cases. “In case of Vinay Bajaj, some persons had reportedly thrashed him. We are investigating the matter,” he said. Meanwhile, the CPI also held a protest against the alleged attempt by people owing allegiance to the Congress to usurp land at Bajeke Village in Guruharsahai. OC
