A day after The Tribune reported the death of a 22-year-old girl of Binjon village in Mahilpur almost an hour after her family got to know of her pregnancy, the Hoshiarpur police started investigations into the case on Friday.

Garhshankar DSP Raj Kumar and other police officials interrogated the family members at the Mahilpur police station. The police also procured evidences from the private hospital where the unmarried girl was found to be 30-week pregnant as per medical reports.

They also reportedly checked the CCTV footage of the girl and her brother captured during their visit to the hospital on Tuesday, the day of her death.

Hoshiarpur SSP Elanchezian said, “As there is no complainant, we have taken cognisance of the report that appeared in The Tribune. But we need more time for proper investigation. The mother of the deceased came for interrogation late in the evening.”

Meanwhile, more people came in front over the issue. Balbir Singh, a local leader, said, “There is surely a strong element of suspicion against the family in the case. I provide free-of-cost ambulance service in the village for the patients as well as to carry bodies to the cremation ground. Even I was not contacted by the family.”
