Tension gripped Sunam road in Sangrur after Sangrur civil administration with police forcibly removed two members of ETT and TET pass unemployed teachers, who along with other members had been sitting on hunger strike since September 11.
After the health of both started deteriorating , administration requested both to end fast, but when both refused cops got both admitted to civil hospital, Sangrur.
“Since the health of both Barjinder Singh and Harjeet Singh had been deteriorating , we had been trying to convince them from last two days to end hunger strike. Doctors had warned that anything could happen to them if they do not end their fast. We have got them admitted in hospital,” said Avikesh Gupta, SDM, Sangrur.
After administration removed both, other five protesters who have been sitting atop of water tank since September 4, announced to jump, causing panic among police and civil authorities.
Police and civil administration immediately arranged big nets and deputed cops near water tank. Two protesters from atop announced to jump if police tried to remove more protesters from the site. Later, teachers also blocked Sangrur-Sunam road.
“Authorities have got fixed our meeting in CM office on September 20, but our protest here would continue till our recruitment on the basis of class 12 with ETT and TET,” said Deepak Kamboj, president of union.
DSP Sangrur Satpal Sharma said they have deputed police to maintain law and order in area.
“We did not try to remove other protesters, but only got admitted to the hospital the two who were unwell,” said DSP Sharma.
