Just about three months after former CAT commando Gurmeet Singh Pinki moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the orders of his dismissal from service, the Punjab Police today submitted the action was in consonance with the service rules.

In his detailed reply, Fatehagarh Sahib Senior Superintendent of Police Jatinder Singh said a person who could fire and kill somebody was not entitled to reinstatement in service.

The SSP added the Governor’s orders relinquishing the period of Pinki’s sentence in the murder case, did not ipso facto give him the right to reinstatement in service.

He added the Ludhiana range DIG in May this year issued Pinki’s reinstatement orders after considering his dedication, daredevil and fearless nature. But orders were immediately reviewed by Jalandhar IG (Zonal-II), after finding he had been wrongly reinstated.

A life-term convict in a murder case, he was released prematurely from jail last year. He was re-appointed as police inspector on May 16, following which he reportedly joined duty at Fatehgarh Sahib. But his reappointment was set aside on May 20.

In his petition, Pinki through senior advocate Kanwaljit Singh threw a challenge to the order dated May 20 on the ground that it was bad in law and could not have been passed by the authorities concerned.
