Parents protest teacher’s transfer

SANGRUR: Activists of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Ugrahan, along with parents of students of Government Senior Secondary School, Bakhora Kalan, on Friday protested in front of the school and blocked its main gate against the transfer of mathematics teacher Meghraj to Guladi.

Activists of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Ugrahan, along with parents of students of Government Senior Secondary School, Bakhora Kalan, on Friday protested in front of the school and blocked its main gate against the transfer of mathematics teacher Meghraj to Guladi.

“Meghraj was transferred on November 28 without any reason. It will affect the studies of all students. We had held protests on November 28 and 29. We will intensify our agitation if the authorities don’t cancel the transfer immediately,” said Gurcharan Singh, block Lehragaga press secretary of the Bharatiya Kisan Union Ugrahan.

Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha members also gheraoed the Deputy District Education Officer, Sangrur, and other officers till 8.30 pm last evening.

They ended the protest after the authorities assured them to cancel the transfer of Meghraj.

“The Deputy District Education Officer had assured us to cancel the transfer, but this morning we got to know that Meghraj was relieved last evening after his transfer. We will intensify our agitation if his transfer is not cancelled immediately,” said Balvir Chand Longowal, a morcha leader.

District Education Officer Harkanwaljit Kaur said she would look into the matter.
