Khamano tehsildar Harphool Singh purportedly claims in a video that corruption is part of the system. The video that has gone viral on social media was part of a sting operation on the tehsildar.

Leader of the Opposition Sukhpal Khaira on Sunday released the video.

In the five-minute video, the tehsildar purportedly says a hefty bribe is to be given to senior officials and politicians to get plum postings. Singh purportedly says an MLA demanded Rs3 lakh from a newly recruited PCS officer, who was posted as a naib tehsildar, for a favourite posting. In the video, Singh claimed to have helped the officer by making a call to the MLA and got the posting for Rs1 lakh. The tehsildar further says in the video that everyone takes money. “I can get any work done. Several persons come to me for their work,” he purportedly said in the video. The tehsildar could not be contacted as he is away to Canada.

Deputy Commissioner Kanwalpreet Brar said, “I have not seen the video. If the tehsilsar has indeed talked in such a manner, he has to face the consequences. I have received complaints against him from the public and he has been warned. Senior officer will be apprised of the matter and action will be taken.”

CM has failed: Khaira

Chandigarh: Leader of the Opposition Sukhpal Khaira on Sunday dared CM Capt Amarinder Singh to come out clean on charges of rampant corruption in the state. “In the video, the tehsildar says he has good relations with the MLA and that he will try to negotiate the price of posting since the newly appointed PCS officer says he can afford only Rs 1 lakh,” he said. “The sting exposes the failure of Capt Amarinder to curb corruption,” Khaira said.
