Chandigarh, October 17

Buoyed up by the Congress victory in the Gurdaspur byelection, state party leaders, led by Sukhjinder Randhawa, have upped the ante against SAD president Sukhbir Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia.

Led by Randhawa, who is being credited with getting highest margin of votes from his Assembly constituency, Dera Baba Nanak, Ajnala MLA Harpartap Ajnala and Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh have stated that taking responsibility of the SAD-BJP coalition defeat, Sukhbir should remove Majithia from all positions in the Panthic party.

They said the SAD-BJP suffered a historic defeat because of Majithia, who they claimed had become a most hated figure in Punjab. It was a mandate against Majithia, who had been made incharge of the constituency after the unceremonious removal of Sucha Singh Langha, they said.

Advising Sukhbir Badal, the legislators said removal of Majithia would not only be beneficial for the SAD, but also help in reinforcing public faith in politicians.

Even though, 40 MLAs, led by Randhawa, have been pressing upon Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to act against Majithia for his alleged role in the drugs case, the CM has clearly stated that he would not indulge in vendetta politics.
