Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema said Congress MLA Kulbir Singh Zira’s drug allegations were serious and the Chief Minister should order an inquiry under the supervision of the High Court.

In a statement, Cheema said the issue raised by Zira was a matter of grave concern, but neither the government, nor the special investigating team (SIT), headed by DGP Mohammad Mustafa, had reacted to the allegations levelled by him. This indicated that the nefarious trade was being run by the nexus in connivance with them, he alleged.

He demanded that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who had taken a solemn vow by holding ‘Gutka sahib’ in his hands to bring those behind the nexus to justice, needed to clear the air over the barrage of allegations by holding an impartial inquiry under the supervision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to clear his government’s locus standi.
