Breaking his silence over criticism regarding the party’s poor show in urban areas, Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today questioned Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh as to why he was being singled out on account of his performance, while no questions were being raised on 50 other departments.

Intensifying the war of words with the CM, Sidhu said the outcome of the poll result was a collective responsibility of the government and not an individual. “If the party has won on eight seats, including the urban dominated ones — Amritsar, Patiala and Ludhiana — the poor performance in Bathinda cannot be attributed to me. But I have never raised fingers at any one,” he said.

On being asked about his “friendly match” jibe, Sidhu said he had not named anyone and had only spoken against those working against the interests of the party.

Refusing to be drawn into controversy over his portfolios being changed, Sidhu said he had never spoken against the CM. “Whatever decision he takes, I have never questioned him.”

He said under various Central schemes, he was able to generate enough development funds for the department.
