Patiala, November 25

A few days after Congress MLAs levelled charges of “corruption against some police officers for helping drug peddlers”, the Patiala SSP today ordered registration of an FIR against an inspector and two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs). One of the cops has been arrested.

Following a preliminary probe by Patiala SP (Investigation) Harmandeep Hundal and DSP Rajpura Akashdeep Aulakh, the SSP ordered registration of an FIR against CIA in-charge Inspector Gurjeet Singh, ASIs Sahib Singh and Gurdeep Singh. All three have been suspended while Sahib Singh has also been arrested. A case under the NDPS Act and Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered.

On Tuesday, four Congress MLAs — Hardial Singh Kamboj, Madan Lal Jalalpur, Rajinder Singh and Nirmal Singh — had raised serious questions over the police working during a meeting of the district grievances committee chaired by Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot. — TNS
