US Congress pays tributes to Guru

AMRITSAR: The Sikhs across the world are delighted over the first-ever prayers held in the US Congress and Senate in San Francisco in commemoration of the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak.

The Sikhs across the world are delighted over the first-ever prayers held in the US Congress and Senate in San Francisco in commemoration of the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak.

Pritpal Singh, coordinator, American Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, said Senator Pat Tommey from Pennsylvania congratulated the Sikhs on the upcoming auspicious occasion. The prayers were delivered by priest Sukhwinder Singh.

The chairman read out the principles of the Guru and the importance of His advent in the world. Congressman Jim Costa also made the opening remarks on Guru’s principles and the contribution of the Sikhs to the US.

AGPC president JS Hothi and Dr Pritpal Singh said: “We are delighted that the two US Houses held the prayers for Guru Nanak, who envisaged world peace, humanity and coexistence of diversities.”

Moderator Harpreet S Sandhu, executive director, American Sikh Caucus Committee, also conducted an interfaith dialogue session by thanking the Chair and highlighting the role of the Sikhs in the development and progress of the US society.

Members, including Congresswoman Shela Jackson Lee of Texas, also spoke about the contribution of the Sikh religion to the world.—TNS
