Fazilka, October 17

Youth Akali Dal chief Bikram Singh Majithia has accused the Congress government of misusing its power ahead of the bypolls being held in four constituencies. He said it was a “contest between a rich man, Awla, who held property worth crores, and a common man, Raj Singh Dibbipura. It is up to the voters to decide who they will choose”.

Addressing a poll meeting in Chack Banwala village of the Jalalabad segment, Majithia said the Congress had been abusing power by influencing people to vote in favour of its candidate through government employees, particularly in rural areas. He alleged that during the roadshow of Capt Amarinder Singh yesterday, the Congress hired a large number of persons from 30 constituencies of the state.

Sticking to the party stand of opposing the release of cops languishing in prisons for human rights violations during the militancy period, he said it was tantamount to “patronising the crime conducted by saviors of the people who betrayed the country. We’ll continue to oppose it.”

Majithia said the Congress had betrayed old party leaders like ex-minister Hans Raj Josan by offering ticket to an “outsider”. — OC
