Artistes pay tributes to thespian

CHANDIGARH: Eminent thespians and litterateurs of national eminence saluted the contribution of theatrical legend Sardar Gursharan Singh to performing art of theatre on the opening day of the three-day commemoration function organised by Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi under the aegis of Punjab Arts Council at Randhawa auditorium here today.

Eminent thespians and litterateurs of national eminence saluted the contribution of theatrical legend Sardar Gursharan Singh to performing art of theatre on the opening day of the three-day commemoration function organised by Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi under the aegis of Punjab Arts Council at Randhawa auditorium here today.

Padamshri awardees Surjit Patar, Dr Neelam Man Singh, Ram Gopal Bajaj and Bansi Kaul were present on the occasion.

Dr Patar hailed Gursharan Singh as the son of soil who emerged like a theatrical and literary exponent of the poor farming community and exploited labour class through the vibrant medium of theatre.

Kaul exhorted young theatre practitioners and playwrights to explore new dimensions by focusing on issues of socio-cultural and political relevance.

Dr Navsharan Kaur, elder daughter of the legend, exhorted theatre practitioners to be more vigilant and courageous. Dr Neelam Man Singh observed that the myriad minded and talented thespian Gursharan Singh was an institution unto himself whose ideals, life living, logic, humanistic, vision, virtuosity and wisdom merged into one.
