Govt names panel members, finally

A day before coordination committee meeting for jointly holding programme to celebrate 550th Gurpurb at Sultanpur Lodhi, the SGPC today received a communiqué from the state government, intimating it the name of its two nominees.

SGPC chief secretary Dr Roop Singh said the letter, addressed to SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal, intimated that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, on the directives of Akal Takht Jathedar, nominated Cabinet Ministers Charanjit Singh Channi and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa for inclusion in the joint commemoration committee.

They are likely to take part in the meeting to be held at the SGPC office on Tuesday.

On the directions of Akal Takht, a five-member panel, comprising two representatives each of the SGPC and the government, besides a Sikh intellectual, was mooted.

The SGPC has nominated former minister Tota Singh and Bibi Jagir Kaur as its representatives. Nihang organisation head Baba Nihal Singh Hariya Wela Wale was empanelled as Sikh intellectual.

Will finish works by Oct 10: Govt

Chandigarh: The work on all development projects being executed at Sultanpur Lodhi has been put on fast pace mode and will be completed by October 10. Besides, all other arrangements needed to provide amenities to the pilgrims will also be put in place by then, said A Venu Prasad, Principal Secretary, Local Government. TNS
