The BJP on Friday defended its local leaders who were booked for alleged fraud in the sale of land that was earmarked for a park.

Talking to the media, BJP legislator Arun Narang alleged that the police had registered a case as they were under pressure of the Congress leaders.

The case was registered on a complaint of Sushil Bishnoi, a resident of Dharam Nagari, to the Fazilka SSP on September 30, 2018, alleging that Municipal Council ex-president Pramil Kalani and BJP councillor Rakesh Chhabra, alias Titu, and his brother Naresh connived to sell a 3.5-kanal plot illegally and caused huge financial loss to the civic body.

Narang said the auction of the said plot was conducted in the presence of the representatives of the Revenue and Local Bodies Departments in a transparent manner. He, however, skipped the query when the media recalled that the plot was earmarked for park when Titu’s wife Suman was councillor in 2011 and why the BJP-ruled council did not develop it for four years. He said the party would challenge the case in the high court soon and sought quashing of the FIR.
