Court frames charges against AAP MLA, 3 others

BATHINDA: The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Sangrur, Ajay Mittal, on Friday framed charges against Vijay Kumar, Nand Kishore, Gaurav Kumar and AAP MLA from Delhi, Naresh Yadav, in connection with the Malerkotla Quran desecration case.

The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Sangrur, Ajay Mittal, on Friday framed charges against Vijay Kumar, Nand Kishore, Gaurav Kumar and AAP MLA from Delhi, Naresh Yadav, in connection with the Malerkotla Quran desecration case.

The court has fixed July 3 as the next date of hearing in the case. According to sources, evidences will be produced in the case on July 3. Earlier, in August 2018, the state Home Department had granted sanction to prosecute all four accused.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) NS Kalsi had granted sanction to prosecute Vijay Kumar from Jind (Haryana), Nand Kishore and Gaurav Kumar from Tarn Taran (Punjab) and AAP MLA Yadav under Sections 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.

The trial of the case has been going in a Sangrur court for three years now. Malerkotla residents had found torn pages of Quran scattered in a street in June 2016.
