State unit chief of the AAP and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann today criticised law and order situation in the state stating that the crime graph had assumed alarming proportions ever since the Capt Amarinder Singh government assumed charge in 2017.

In a statement issued here today, Mann lamented that the tragic death of Faridkot youth Jaspal Singh, allegedly due to suicide in the police lockup, had sent shock waves across the state.

He said the incident took a serious turn when CIA Inspector Narinder Singh (who also committed suicide later) allegedly disposed of the body, illegally, which failed to move Capt Amrinder Singh, who also holds the Home portfolio, to say a word over the tragic incident.

Mann said a kind word by the government would have applied the much-needed balm on the bleeding wounds of members of the aggrieved family, who were sitting on a ‘dharna’ for justice. Mann said not a day passed when disturbing news of suicides by youngsters and debt-ridden farmers were not heard.

Mann said if the Capt Amarinder Singh government failed to initiate action in the matter soon, the AAP would be left with no choice but to launch an “apolitical” protest in the state to check the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
