The Education Department on Tuesday suspended a physical education teacher posted at Government High School, Rahurianwali village, on the charge of eve-teasing.

A criminal case has been registered and a departmental probe has also been marked against him.

The issue came to light on Tuesday morning, when a large number of students along with their parents reached the school and accuse the teacher, Talwinderjit Singh, of eve-teasing. The accused teacher was not present in the school, but the angry villagers said they would teach him a lesson themselves rather than lodging a complaint with the police.

The school principal immediately called the police, who tried to pacify the parents assuring them action.

Meanwhile, Muktsar District Education Officer Malkit Singh Khosa spoke to the Secretary, School Education, over the issue and sent a team to the school.

Khosa said, “The accused teacher is nearly 50 years old. We have got a complaint of eve-teasing against him. He has been suspended and a four-member team will probe the allegations against him. He has been posted in the school for the last seven years, but we have never got any such complaint against him in the past.” —TNS
