Drug peddlers held

ABOHAR: Nirmal Singh (30) and Kulwinder Singh (31) of Theri village in the Gidderbaha tehsil of Muktsar district were nabbed under the NDPS Act as the Hanumangarh police today intercepted a car on the state highway and seized 33-kg poppy husk that they were reportedly smuggling to poll-bound Punjab.

Nirmal Singh (30) and Kulwinder Singh (31) of Theri village in the Gidderbaha tehsil of Muktsar district were nabbed under the NDPS Act as the Hanumangarh police today intercepted a car on the state highway and seized 33-kg poppy husk that they were reportedly smuggling to poll-bound Punjab. The vehicle has been impounded.

The Abohar police seized 10-gm heroin that Ravi Gora of Hisar and his accomplice Dinesh Kumar Dimpy of Anand Nagari smuggled from Haryana for sale here, the police said. Both were arrested under the NDPS Act.

The Sriganganagar police seized 41,000 habit-forming tablets by intercepting biker Jaswinder Singh of Salempura village.

The police seized 1,980 bottles of Haryana-made liquor by intercepting a mini truck near Sappanwali village on the highway and arrested Lucky, who is son of a village sarpanch. There were reports that he was involved in smuggling liquor from Haryana, the police claimed. The police also raided a roadside eatery and nabbed staff member Rinku of Arya Nagar with five bottles of Haryana liquor. Owner Sonu Gandhi of Krishna Nagar managed to flee. — TNS
