Barnala, April 17

Leaders of Bargari Insaaf Morcha and supporting parties today decided to stage a dharna in front of the Election Commission (EC) office in Chandigarh on April 20 in protest against the removal of IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh from the SIT probing police firing incidents at Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura.

They also decided to launch a movement across the state demanding rollback of the IG’s transfer.

A state-level meeting was held at Sanghera village gurdwara in the district today. Morcha leaders alleged that Kunwar Vijay Pratap’s transfer would adversely affect the investigation into police firing cases. They alleged that since SAD leaders involved in the case feared their arrest at the time of elections, so they got the shifted without any valid reason.

United Akali Dal general secretary Gurdeep Singh Bathinda said Akal Takht parallel jathedar Bhai Dhian Singh Mand had called the meeting to discuss two main issues — the transfer of the IG and demolition of a portion of darshani deori at Darbar Sahib in Tarn Taran.

SAD (Amristar) president Simranjit Singh Mann and SAD Sutantar president Parmjit Singh Sahuli and other Sikh leaders were also present.
