The police claimed to have confiscated 4,800 bottles of Haryana-made liquor, packed in 400 boxes, by intercepting a mini-truck on the city bypass here on Saturday.
There had been reports that some Haryana-based liquor contractors had been selling liquor from unauthorised stores in Chautala village to Punjab and Rajasthan. One of them has been booked on the basis of information provided by nabbed smugglers, but he could not be arrested by the police.
The smuggling racket has hit sales of Punjab contractors.
Moreover, the police have also seized 20-kg poppy husk from Balwinder Singh of Guruharsahai, 600 sedative tablets from Gurjant Singh of Sursinghwala village in Ferozepur and 689 tablets from Jaswant Singh Raju of Gidderanwali village here.
